Summer Studio Residency

Sala Diaz is committed to fostering experimentation and artistic growth. The Summer Studio Residency allows local artists to immerse themselves in a supportive environment while having access to a dedicated studio space. This program serves as an extension of our core mission, and aims to eliminate the financial and physical barriers that artists often face when seeking a studio space. The artist-in-residence will have the exclusive use of the gallery, enabling them to fully engage with their artistic practice, explore new ideas, and create new works.

All artists-in-residence are hand selected by the Sala Diaz staff. We do not currently accept applications for this residency. Please do not submit applications at this time.

  • Audrya Flores

    2026 Summer Studio Resident

    Audrya Flores is a Tejana artist and mother who repurposes textiles and natural materials for her multi-media works. Through storytelling and myth-making, she explores trauma, healing, and identity. Her work is influenced by all things natural and supernatural as well as her roots in the border town of Brownsville, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has exhibited at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Mexic-Arte Museum, Lady Base Gallery, Provenance Gallery, Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival, Centro de Artes, Central Library Gallery at San Antonio Public Library, Contemporary at Blue Star, McNay Art Museum, and Sala Diaz. Flores lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.

    2025 Summer Studio Residents

    The art activating hope (aah) collaborative is a community-based art initiative promoting effective social change. institutionalized loneliness threads object making, performance, storytelling, and intergenerational learning into our personal and communal experiences. the residents and beading behind bars projects deal with time, memory, and loss. take a fortune + leave a fortune is a community project that creates togetherness through kindness and craft. New projects continue to focus on creating and finding joy together.

  • Kat Cadena

    2023 Summer Studio Resident

    Kat Cadena is a multimedia artist, celebrated muralist and independent illustrator. She was raised by multiple generations of strong, proud and fierce mestiza women in San Antonio, Texas. Cadena’s bright pink portraits and murals depict unflinchingly emotional subjects, most often, women. Surrounded by monumental, flowing medicinal herbs and flowers, her works are a nod to a simultaneous keeping of tradition and an intentional breaking of cycles.
